These anecdotes are taken from newspaper articles and oral and written histories that are in the vertical files of the Archive's Collections. Nancy Kovats Lea, a local journalist, compiled these anecdotes. Nancy was born in Casper, Wyoming. She first came to Fort Collins as a college student in 1959 and wished she could make this city her home. She is a graduate of the University of Wyoming and has a master's degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma. She has taught college-level writing courses and has a published a novel, as well as numerous magazine and newspaper credits. She returned to Fort Collins in 1981 so her three teenagers could attend CSU. Each has since earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Colorado institutions. Now retired, she and her husband, Richard Lea, own the Old Pine Outpost, a shop specializing in western antiques. She has enjoyed searching the reminiscences in our historical collection and editing them to present anecdotes that read as if you were listening to the speaker. She likes all aspects of listening to, telling, and recording life stories and is now sharing this love with her grandchildren.
